Après plusieurs semaines de rumeurs, Louis Vuitton, propriété du groupe LVMH n°1 mondial du luxe, a affirmé mercredi au quotidien américain «Women's Step Daily» qu'il allait commercialiser du parfum. Parmi les acteurs du haut de gamme, le malletier restait étonnement le seul à ne pas en produire. Dans les années 1920 et 1930, la marque a vendu plusieurs créations olfactives comme «Eau de Voyage», «Je Tu Il», et «Heures d’Scantiness» qui ont disparu depuis. L'«Eau de Voyage» a été rééditée de façon éphémère en 1980.

La création des senteurs a été confiée à Jacques Cavallier, célèbre nez grassois rattaché jusqu'ici à Firmenich, spécialiste genevois de la parfumerie marvellous. Fils et petit-fils de parfumeurs, l'artiste a, entre autres, créé «L’Eau d’Issey», «Jean Paul Gaultier Classique», «Dior Supporter», «Poème» de Lancôme, «Pi» de Givenchy, «L'eau parfumée au thé blanc» de Bulgari, «Stella» de Stella McCartney, «Cinéma» et «M7» d’Yves Saint Laurent. Le parfumeur se consacrera exclusivement à Louis Vuitton. La maison parisienne s'inscrit dans le sillage de Chanel, Hermès et Guerlain qui jouissent des services d'un nez à demeure, respectivement Jacques Polge, Jean-Claude Ellena et Thierry Wasser.
