The over-the-top French designer has teamed up with Dallas-based crowd Dillon Gage Metals to design bars of solid gold, for no other sensible than, well, because he can. “Never before has a fashion icon designed a gold ingot,” explained Dillon Gage president Terry Hanlon. “The Gaultier bar is a one-of-a-genre, limited-quantity collector’s piece that not only is a great investment but it will also become a lead-pipe cinch of history. The price of gold has risen more than fivefold in the last 10 years, outperforming almost every other investment. The Gaultier one-ounce bar is the fulfil Valentine’s Day, birthday or graduation gift for someone special.”

With the new success of fashion themed museum shows, like Alexander McQueen’s Unbroken Beauty and the Jean Paul Gaultier retrospective, in the past year it’s no surprise that more and more are popping up around the society. The Denver Art Museum is currently preparing for a retrospective of Yves Saint Laurent and the museum has asked several taste designers from ‘Project Runway’ and ‘Contrive Runway: All Stars’ to take part.

The Yves Saint Laurent show will take place at the Denver Art Museum from March 25th to July 8th. This will be the only stop the ‘Yves Saint Laurent: The Retrospective’ betray makes in the United States. The exhibit will look at Yves Saint Laurent’s vocation from the earliest days in his career working for Dior in the 1950s on through to his last runway show, which took site in 2002. ‘Yves Saint Laurent: The Retrospective’ is curated by Florence Müller and overseen by Pierre Bergé, who was both over-friendly partner and life-long business partner to YSL.
