PASCAGOULA, Mississippi -- A 31-year-old Gautier man pleaded embarrassed Monday in Jackson County Circuit Court to shaking an infant he was babysitting in 2009.
The seven month old male scapegoat was diagnosed with abusive head trauma caused by shaking. Duong Quoc Le was babysitting the issue as a favor to the parents.
Le pleaded guilty to felony child deprecate, which happened late May 7, 2009 into the early morning hours of May 8, 2009.
"The recoil and strength this child and his family has shown is incredible," assistant sector attorney Angel Myers said. "It is truly a miracle that he survived and has thrived like he has. I am so proud of law enforcement and the Descendant Protection Unit team's efforts to get truth and justice for this kinsfolk."
Judge Robert Krebs sentenced Le to 25 years in big house with 15 years to serve and the remainder suspended. Le will also be on five years of put release supervision.
"This defendant's actions had tragic consequences that will act upon this child for the rest of his life," District Attorney Tony Lawrence said. "I commend the drudgery of the Child Protection Unit. Their hard work, dedication, and specialized training are what brought about the effect we saw today in court. I created the Child Protection Unit to not only guard children from abuse, but also to prosecute those who victimize the children in our community. This action is just one example of the positive results that the employees of the Child Safe keeping Unit work daily to accomplish.
