The Ecclesiastic of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, has denied media reports that she unilaterally ordered the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Intermediation (PPPRA) to announce the withdrawal of fuel subsidy without presidential concurrence.

A statement signed by the NNPC Group General Manager, Clientele Affairs, Dr Levi Ajuonuma, in Abuja described the reports as “malicious and lacking in have a right”.

It recalled that the idea to remove the subsidy was first announced by the state governors and that the principles was endorsed by the Federal Executive Council.

“It is wrong for anyone to say that I unilaterally ordered the PPPRA to state the removal of subsidy.

“Withdrawal of subsidy is a policy of the Federal Supervision in which I serve as Minister of Petroleum Resources,” Alison-Madueke explained.

The asseveration quoted the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, as having clarified earlier that it was not a unilateral demeanour of either the PPPRA or any government official.

Well, the Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Intercession (PPPRA), is an executive agency that was to apply subsidy on petroleum products, on account of the dearth to continue to import large quantities of petroleum products in the veneer of the poor performance of the refineries, and what the National Assembly did was to legalise a list of the Executive and therefore, given teeth to the PPPRA and make the National Joining has a say on the issue of pricing.
