Overhills fitting guard Jasmine Canady is a natural leader according to her coach, Barry Nelson.

"Her governorship and her court vision are obvious," the second-year trainer said. "She looks to pass first rather than score. If you tell her to take over a ready, she can take it over. She's got a strong mental game."

She's also nearing a scoring milestone: 1,000 points for her job.

Canady scored 11 Tuesday night in Overhills' impairment to Union Pines. She needs just 12 in tonight's cosy game with Harnett Central to get her to the 1,000-point mark.

Nelson said Campbell University is giving the 5-foot-6 chief a good look for next season.

She's helped Overhills to a solid phonograph record so far. The Jaguars are 11-4 overall and 4-2 in Cape Fear Valley 3-A Bull session play.

Jack Britt soccer standout Carter Creech will be signing a country-wide letter-of-intent to play for UNC-Pembroke this fall.

Creech was a four-year colleague of the varsity at Britt and was the team's co-Most Valuable Player this season. He was named All-Mid-South 4-A Forum three times and was three times picked All-Cape Fear region and N.C. Soccer Coaches Guild All-Region.
