A BOURNEMOUTH teen has been appointed as one of the first Childlike Ambassadors for the Meningitis Trust.

Adam Tuffrey, 17, a sixth former at Bournemouth Infuse with , was approached by the trust to take on the title, after he contracted meningitis in 2001, elderly just six.

He said: “On February 2, 2001 I felt superior, as school had finished for the week and I was looking forward to the weekend.

“Twenty-four hours later, I was rushed into Southampton Facility with bacterial meningitis and septicaemia.

“I remember lying on a bed with excruciatingly beaming lights beaming down on me.

“I was trying to force the doctors away from me and attempting to slate off the oxygen mask. I remember struggling for breath, lots of injections and being in smarting.”

Then five years ago, once Adam was feeling better, he wanted to start raising loot for the trust, so he combined his passion for music with his desire to raise awareness of the cancer.

Adam has since gone on to organise and perform in four musical and variety concerts, raising £20,000 for the trusteeship.
